The Orange News Examiner is your voice in the Colour City, but it urgently needs your help to keep telling stories.

The Orange News Examiner is Orange's independent, locally-owned and locally-produced news service.

In its first year 2022 over 500 stories were published, from breaking news to investigations to long features on locals with amazing stories to tell.

The two reporters - Peter Holmes and David Fitzsimons - have a combined 75 years experience writing, editing and publishing at small local and large metropolitan newspapers.

Nobody in Orange is doing what we do.

Our valued advertisers are the only reason this site remains free, but that revenue is nowhere near enough to continue running a news site.

Why?

News is expensive to produce. It is labour intensive. A lot of time is spent researching, making calls, scouring documents, writing, editing, taking photos, publishing, moderating comments, talking to sources, etc. You can be working at 7am because a story has broken, and still working at 9pm because a contact wants to have a chat.

Then you have the tip offs that lead to dead ends or brick walls - hours or days expended for no return. But that is the nature of the news beast, and why we love it. No two days are ever the same.

Thousands of readers come to our site. We receive overwhelmingly positive, and sometime very touching, comments from our readers about what we're doing.

But praise and kind words don't pay the bills.

Most of the people who read this will keep scrolling, and we understand that. Why pay for something if you don't have to?

"He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being flown to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition," police said.

The driver of the car and sole occupant – a 53-year-old man – was not injured.

Officers attached to Central West Police District subjected the man to a roadside breath test which allegedly returned a positive result.

"He was arrested and taken to Orange Health Services for mandatory testing before being returned to Orange Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis which returned an alleged reading of 0.124."

He was charged with mid-range PCA and is due to appear in Orange Local Court on Thursday April 6, 2023. His licence has been confiscated.

Inquiries are continuing by officers attached to the Southern Crash Investigation Unit.
