UPDATED: Person freed from vehicle after horror crash near Orange, transported by road to hospital

The Mitchell Highway is closed in both directions due to a truck and car crash.

The incident occurred at Windera, around 10km west of Orange, and was reported around 8:40am Monday.

If you're travelling west, you'll be diverted via The Escort Way and Peabody Road while the eastbound diversion is via Amaroo Road and The Escort Way.

Traffic in the area is heavy so avoid the area and use the diversions in place.

Emergency services and traffic crews are on site. The Orange News Examiner has been told the person has been freed from the vehicle and transported by road to hospital. Their condition is not known.

Transport for NSW is also on the scene. Drivers have been advised to "exercise caution, allow extra travel time, use diversions".
