Tours of Cadia Valley Operations on Sunday - one of the offerings at the mine's open day - have sold out.

The open day is from 9am to 3pm at the Naylor Pavilion at Orange Showground.

The mine, which is about to mark its 25th anniversary, was officially opened on October 23, 1998.

An interactive display where guests can "immerse themselves in all things mining" is part of the event. You can learn about the latest mining technologies, view mining equipment and even have a sniff about for a job.

There will be a BBQ lunch, live music, jumping castles, Spilt Milk ice cream and kids' face painting.

Every 10 minutes a two-and-a-half-hour tour of the mine will depart from the Orange Showground.

Those on the tour will have an underground mining experience at the Ridgeway portal, and see the heavy vehicle workshop, and mills used for ore processing.

This event is sold out, and there is a waiting list. Cadia is asking those who have booked seats but cannot attend to advise via cadiavalley@newcrest.com.au

The open day is a free and wheelchair-accessible event. A gold coin donation per ticket is recommended. All donations will be matched by Cadia and donated to FoodCare Orange.

The Orange News Examiner needs your support so we can keep informing our city. You can make a one-off donation or a small monthly pledge at Patreon or PayPal.

Thank you to those who have already chipped in.
