MEET THE LOCALS: Serenity Clarke
Favourite movie?
I have lots of favourites but Elf with Will Ferrell & Zooey Deschanel always makes me laugh out loud, no matter how many times I see it. It’s a great one to watch with the kids. Terminator 2 and Thelma & Louise are also big favourites.
What’s your dream car?
One I don’t have to pay for!
Can you give us a useful tip for saving money?
Set yourself a realistic budget and automate it. Setting up a Payroll Allocation by depositing your salary into multiple accounts is an easy way to make sure your bills are covered, loans are paid and you have money for a rainy day.
Best meal you’ve ever had?
A six-course dinner at Barberstown Castle, Ireland. It was over 20 years ago but unforgettable!
Tell us a bit about your job.
There’s always lots going on in the loans department at Orange Credit Union; # neverbored sums it up nicely. Some days are crazy full-on, but the best part of my job is I get to help people - whether they are buying their first home and experiencing it all for the first time, on the journey of building a new home, or buying an investment property. I have the opportunity to meet people, share their experience and help make buying a home as seamless as possible.
Best holiday?
Backpacking around Slovenia, Croatia and Italy back in the day before smart phones and Google. It was an adventure arriving in a new place with no idea where you were going to stay, getting lost and discovering amazing places even the Lonely Planet guide didn’t know about!
A perfect weekend starts with …
A cleaner coming on Friday.
Why did you take out a loan with Orange Credit Union? What sort of loan was it?
To build our home. It’s a home loan with a fantastic introductory rate, and a 100 percent offset account attached, so our savings are minimising the interest on the loan.
Favourite album?
Guns N' Roses' Appetite for Destruction - they take me back to my teenage years!
Best piece of advice you’ve received?
Always help someone. You might be the only one that does.
Do you have any surprise talents?
I’ve been told my Espresso Martinis are the best in the world ; )

Which five people, living or dead, would you invite to dinner?
My Mum, Dad, brothers and sister – it’s wonderful to get everyone together and doesn’t happen often enough when some of us live interstate.
What would be on the menu?
Cocktails and nibblies followed by Thai food.
What Orange needs right now …
