Fire and Rescue were quick to get a grass fire in Orange under control early on Friday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to McLachlan Street near Orange City Council's works depot.
A fire was burning in long grass grass in the strip of public land that runs from McLachlan Street to Spring Street.
There is a wide pathway through the open land, and no vehicular access is allowed.
The fire brigade arrived on scene at about 12:10pm and soon had the fire under control.
An officer told The Orange News Examiner it was likely the fire was deliberately lit, or caused by a cigarette butt being tossed into the long grass.
