Cycling, triathlon, AFL, rugby, equestrian and softball in Orange to share $50,000

Fifty thousand dollars of ratepayer money will be spent upgrading sports facilities around the city.
Orange Cycle and Triathlon Club scored $9,500 for timing equipment, a PA system and generator.

The Orange Equestrian Club will receive $3,000 to upgrade water infrastructure at Towac Park including a water tank, pump and more water outlets. It will also receive $12,000 for resurfacing the main riding area at Towac Park.
The Orange Tigers Australian Rules Football Club will get $11,800 for the installation of drainage for the AFL field at Waratah Sports Club; the Orange District Softball Association will get $3,700 toward upgrading facilities for softball at Sir Jack Brabham Park.
Meanwhile, the Orange City Rugby Club is in line for $10,000 towards drainage and access improvements at Pride Park (Waratah Sports Club).
And in further good news for recreation in Orange the aquatic centre will be open for free on Saturday December 3 to welcome summer.
The free day will cost ratepayers about $2,000 to cover the loss of admission fees plus a further $1,000 for a sausage sizzle.
Apart from free entry for people the use of the inflatable equipment will also be free on the day.
Meanwhile, councillors raised questions at Tuesday night's meeting about the revelation it will cost $400,000 a year to maintain the new Orange sporting precinct.
Councillor Mel McDonell said she was concerned the report did not go far enough: “It’s lacking a lot of information, a lot of detail."
Councillor Tony Mileto said council should also look at buying a super sopper to help drain water from the sports fields after rain to allow them to be used more often.
